Going Deeper 12-23-19

A Christmas poem... (can be sung to Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah")

Came to Save Us…  Hallelujah!

I have a story you need to hear

As I tell it I must shed a tear

For it speaks of healing and brings us release.

A gift was given that changed us all

The Child born in a cattle stall

Has come to bring to our world a lasting peace.

Came to save us: Hallelujah
Sing His praises: Hallelujah

The first to hear of the Savior’s birth

The Son of God who’d come down to earth

Were shepherds keeping flocks away from danger.

When angels suddenly filled the sky

Singing that the Lord had drawn nigh

And pointing to a child laid in a manger.

Came to save us: Hallelujah
Sing His praises: Hallelujah

When a couple of years had passed by,

a special star appeared in the sky

Leading Magi to bring gifts to a small boy.

Bearing frankincense and myrrh and gold

They travelled through the frigid cold

And their destination brought them purest joy.

Came to save us: Hallelujah
Sing His praises: Hallelujah

This story now brings us face to face

With our need for His amazing grace.

For this Christ-child would one day die our death.

Held there by love to a lifeless tree

He died for you and He died for me.

So we praise Him with each heartbeat and each breath.

Came to save us: Hallelujah
Sing His praises: Hallelujah

We gather now to celebrate

The end to war and the end to hate

Brought as a gift to all through the Christ-child.

Lay down your burdens, lay down your sin

In His grace we are made new again.

For in Jesus we are all now reconciled.

Came to save us: Hallelujah
Sing His praises: Hallelujah
